Clarity
The number, size and position of any inclusions determines the Clarity of a diamond. The fewer the inclusions the rarer it will be, making it more valuable. Since it is very rare to find a diamond that is flawless, the closer to flawless the greater the value.
The following is the GIA clarity scale, along with corresponding definitions for different clarity grades.
• Flawless (FL)
No visible inclusions or blemishes under 10X magnification.
• Internally Flawless (IF)
No inclusions visible at 10X. Insignificant surface blemishes.
• Minor Inclusions (VVS1, VVS2, VS1, VS2)
Difficult to see face-up at 10X.
• Noticeable Inclusions (SI1, SI2)
Easy to see at 10X.
• Obvious Inclusions (I1, I2, I3)
Easily visible to unaided eye.
